| About Us Kar Mar Cavies was established in Spanaway, Washington in August of 2001. It all started with a birthday present for my oldest daughter Kara. About a month later we had three guinea pigs. One thing lead to another and here we are almost 10 years later. We started showing guinea pigs in Washington and Oregon in 2002. In October of 2004 we moved to the current home of Kar Mar Cavies, Wasilla, Alaska. While in Washington we learned the fundamentals of breeding and showing guinea pigs from some of the top breeders in the country. I owe the success of our breeding program to a few select people. First and most importantly, my husband and daughters. They put up with the cavies, and my traveling across the country to show them. My husband helps with building projects. He deserves credit for the beautiful barn my cavies live in. The girls both take wonderful care of the pigs in my absence and help with the chores daily, without their support non of this would be possible. My start in show cavies came from Sheryl Newland. I can trace my Silver Solids and TSW Americans and White Cresteds back to Sheryl's stock. Megan Rygel and Cindy Bishop are to blame for my start in Coronets and Silkies. I owe Linda Loucks and Dana Kolstad a huge thank you for my start in Abyssinians. I would also like to Thank Sherrie Hunt from California for my newest project. American and American Satin Reds! I have gained so many good friends through showing and breeding cavies. I would love to name them all on here, but sadly I would forget someone and cause hard feelings. My friends know who they are and that they are a very important part of my life and hobby! |
